Wicked Wins Golden Globe

Wicked premiered in theaters on November 22, 2024 and has made over $500 million worldwide. This adaptation of the beloved Broadway Musical, also called Wicked, was directed by John Chu, a musical fantasy prequel to “The Wizard of Oz”, that tells the untold stories of the witches of Oz. Elphaba, played by Cynthian Erivo is a young woman with green skin, who finds herself in Shiz University, where she meets Glinda, portrayed by Ariana Grande, the popular golden haired girl. It follows their unexpected friendship and trip to meet the Wizard of Oz, filled with music and magic. With some of the biggest hits from “Defying Gravity”, to the iconic “Popular” song, as well as immersive sets and vibrant colors, Wicked has been amazingly successful.


The film received four nominations in the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.


Cynthia Erivo (WICKED) was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.



Ariana Grande was also nominated for her beloved role as Glinda, for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture. 


The movie also received a nomination for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. While it did not win this award, it was the winner of the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award.


Wicked Part 2, “For Good”, is set to come out in November 2025, to conclude the Wicked Witch of the West and the Good Witch’s story. The second part of the movie is thoroughly connected to the “Wizard of Oz”, and it portrays Dorothy in her journey to meet the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. There are many rumors as to who will be playing the character, however the actress that has been speculated the most until now to play the beloved character is Alisha Weir, the fifteen year old whose noticeable film credits include “Matilda: The Musical Movie” and “Abigail”. Nonetheless, she is not the only possible choice. The story has  been hugely popular, including a beloved and timeless Broadway musical adaptation on the big screen.
